Task：

An increase in the production of consumer goods results in damage to the

natural environment. Why is this case? What can be done to reduce this

problem?

随着消费品的生产增加，导致自然环境的损害。这是什么原因?我们可以做什么来减轻这个问题?

Sample answer：

I think the growing human population and consumerism are the main factors

that lead to the depletion of natural resources, but both individuals and

government can take actions to save our earth.

To begin with , human population has increased dramatically over the past

decades and people's requirements are on the rise too. We need more food, fresh

water and places to live in. As a result, forests are cleared to build homes and

trees are cut down to make furniture. And deforestation leads to problems like

soil erosion, droughts and change in temperature. When temperature rises, people

buy air conditioners, which will release chemicals that add to global

warming.

Besides, consumerism has also played an important part in destroying the

natural system we all depend on. One negative effect of consumerism is that it

generates more waste materials as people tend to buy new things without

considering the recycling the older ones. For instance, many people buy new

mobile phones, computers and televisions on a yearly basis.

The ill effects of depleting natural resources are considerable and measures

should be taken to combat the situation. On a personal level, which will make a

great difference. In addition, the government should raise the awareness

regarding the need to conserve our resources and invest in renewable energy

resources such as solar and wind energy to protect the environment.

In conclusion, growing population and consumerism cause harmful effects to

our natural environment and the solution lies with not only the government and

but individuals as well.
