7月30日小作文task：The graph shows the percentage of good chemical quality water in

the UK rivers from 1990 to 2002.

The line chart demonstrates how rivers containment of good chemical quality

water altered in the four districts of Britain between the year of 1990 and

2002.

Scotland and Wales showed quite a stable pattern over the period in question.

From the starting point 1990, the figures for both regions remained almost

unchanged at around 98% for Wales and about 96% for Scotland respectively, in

terms of the proportion of good chemical quality water in the rivers. After

1998, however, the portion for Wales decreased to just over 95% while that for

Scotland increased to just under 100%.

On the contrary, England and Northern Ireland experienced similarly dramatic

fluctuations. In 1990, 93% of rivers in England and 86% in Northern Ireland

contained chemicals of high quality. From then on for both areas, the initial

slumps were followed by a rise in the first half of the period in question and

the pattern repeated itself in the second half of the period. In 2002, England

ended up at the intersection with Scotland of just under 100% while Northern

Ireland finished at 90%.

In summary, in terms of the ratio of quality water in rivers, despite the

fact that all the other three districts made progress except Wales, Northern

Ireland ranked last throughout the period from 1990 to 2002.
